Description
Rare Adams Model 1851 Dragoon Double Action Percussion Revolver by Hollis & Sheath
serial #5485X, .50 cal (38 bore), 7 3/4" octagon barrel with a mostly bright very good bore showing some scattered light pitting and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this large revolver are mostly a silvery gunmetal patina showing some spots of cleaned old pitting throughout, small dings and some remnants of blue along the cylinder. The screw heads show moderate slot wear but all of the markings are still remarkably clear with the barrel rib reading "HOLLIS & SHEATH, MAKERS TO H.M.H. BOARD OF ORDNANCE LONDON", the right side frame marked "ADAMS'S PATENT. No 5485. X." along with crisp British proofs at the left side breech and chambers. The checkered one piece walnut grip remains in about very good condition showing overall smoothing, some tiny chips at the edges and handling marks. There is a tiny trap door at the butt, the grip and cylinder are stamped with a matching assembly number and the spring-loaded hammer block safety is intact. The original sights are intact and the action seems to function well mechanically with solid timing and lockup. A very good example of these early Adams patent revolvers, only a handful of which are known to have survived in this large caliber.
